LGBTQ+ History Month

October 1 - 31

LGBTQ+ History Month *Know from whence you came. If you know whence you came, there are absolutely no limitations to here you can go." - James Baldwin

Join us for Virginia Tech’s 2021 LGBTQ+ History Month. Learn where we’ve come from, where we are, and where we are headed. Featuring events with the Black Cultural Center, Black Organizations Council, Cook Counseling Center, American Indian and Indigenous Community Center, El Centro, and College of Arts and Human Sciences.

LGBT History Month is anannual month-long observance in October of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history, and the history of the gay rights and related civil rights movements. It was founded in 1994 by Missouri high-school history teacher Rodney Wilson. LGBT History Month provides role models, builds community, and represents a civil rights statement about the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community. During this month of events, we also acknowledge: International Pronouns Day, Asexual Awareness Week, Spirit Day, Intersex Awareness Day, and National Coming Out Day.
