Native and Indigenous Heritage Month

Native and Indigenous Heritage Month, first recognized by Congress in 1990, celebrates the enduring histories, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous peoples past, present, and future. There are currently 575 federally recognized tribes in the United States. The Commonwealth alone has 7 federally recognized tribes and 4 state recognized tribes. Learn more about tribes in Virginia.
