Luis H. Garay
Luis H. Garay has been a part of the Hokie community since August 2016 serving in the role of the Assistant Director of the LGBTQ+ Center. Their responsibilities include serving as advisor of HokiePride, coordinating and collaborating on programs and events for the LGBTQ+ community at Virginia Tech, and directing the operations of the Center.
Luis is originally from Chicago, Illinois and is excited to live and work in Virginia for the first time. They received their Bachelor's degree in Theatre Arts from Dominican University (River Forest, IL) and a Master's degree in College Student Personnel Administration from the University of Central Missouri (Warrensburg, MO).
Since 2012, Luis has worked in higher education supporting students from historically underrepresented populations be successful in college. Garay has done this through mentor program coordination, scholarship program coordinator, student organization advising, social justice educator, curricula building, LGBTQ advocacy, and diversity and multicultural programming. They believe in the power of young people and college students and providing opportunities for students to learn and grow during their time in college.
